Finding Purpose in Service

For Amy Hayes, R.N., joining Team Hope In Motion was more than a chance to volunteer her time. It became a journey of faith, friendship, and renewed purpose.

As a Pre-Op/PACU nurse at The Indiana Spine Hospital, Amy is no stranger to caring for others. But on her first mission trip to Guatemala, she discovered that nursing could be something even more profound, a deeply spiritual calling. “This mission has taught me so many valuable life lessons,” Amy shares. “Most importantly, it has given me a more profound appreciation for the sacred calling that is nursing. Nursing has become a much more deeply spiritual experience as a result of these trips.”

In the busy rhythm of hospital life, it’s easy to lose sight of why one enters the field in the first place. But through serving patients in Guatemala, Amy found her heart refocused. “My prayer life has become stronger, both personally and professionally,” she says. “I feel empowered and entrusted to share my experiences and encounters through Team HIM with my family, friends, and patients.”

Beyond the hospital walls and the mission clinics, Amy treasures the friendships she’s formed along the way. “My most favorite part of Team HIM is having the opportunity to give back my gifts and talents to the deserving people of Guatemala with this special group of people,” she says. “The friendships I have made as a result of being part of this team are a gift that has truly blessed my life.”

For Amy, every trip is a reminder that faith in action changes lives, both for those who serve and those who are served. “The body of Christ grows ever stronger as a result of the work that is being done through this ministry,” she reflects. “We are called to be the hands and feet of Christ in our world today. We must accept new challenges to go further than our comfort zones allow.”

Through prayer, financial support, and a willingness to go where God calls, Amy believes everyone can be part of this mission. “Together,” she says, “we all make a difference in our world.”
