Restoring Life Step by Step

Team Hope in Motion is a volunteer medical humanitarian organization that provides the gift of mobility through life-changing joint replacement surgeries at no cost for those in need in the U.S. and globally.

Our History.

Team Hope in Motion (Team HIM), formally Operation Walk Midwest, was started in 1995 by Lawrence D. Dorr, M.D. in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Dorr is one of the leading joint replacement surgeons in the United States. On a teaching trip to Russia, Dr. Dorr surmised that one of the best ways to teach physicians was to actually demonstrate the surgery.

Dr. Dorr put together a team of surgeons, internal medicine doctors, anesthesiologists, nurses and physical therapists and planned his first Operation Walk trip to Havana, Cuba. Since that time, Operation Walk has expanded to 13 centers across the United States and has been responsible for thousands of free joint replacements across the globe.

In 2021, Operation Walk Midwest began a new partnership with Faith In Practice and rebranded as Team Hope In Motion. Team HIM is a not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization that provides free surgical treatments for patients in Guatemala. These patients suffer from debilitating bone and joint conditions, such as arthritis, and do not have access to medical care.

Transformation happens both ways.

There is something amazing about serving on mission together. Through our partnership with Faith in Practice and the people of Guatemala, we have the opportunity to not only help, but to grow alongside everyone else. We may provide surgical treatment, but our team members come home changed as well.

Partnering with Faith In Practice

As a surgical care team for Faith in Practice (FIP), we’re committed to building long term relationships and care for the people of Guatemala. We love the fact that we are one of many teams who help offer consistent care from initial contact to post op physical therapy. This way, our patients have professional help from diagnosis through recovery. This also opens up opportunities to help patients who may require multiple surgeries to bring them to a better life.

We love being part of a larger story.

Continued Impact

Our goal is to build on our 20+ year history of medical missions and become a reliable longterm partner with Faith In Practice. We’ll do this by:

  • Sending teams annually to Guatemala

  • Building a solid foundation to help fund surgeries and supplies

  • Recruiting surgical team members to keep our movement going forward

Help us continue to bring hope to those who
cannot walk.
