Amanda Parker – A Heart for Healing
Amanda Parker serves as the pharmacist for Team Hope in Motion, playing a crucial role in ensuring that every surgical procedure runs smoothly. She is responsible for setting up the pharmacy, coordinating medications, and making sure the anesthesia and surgical teams have everything they need. Beyond the operating room, she also prepares customized medication bags for patients to take home, allowing them to continue their therapy and manage pain effectively after surgery.
For Amanda, one of the most remarkable aspects of her time in Guatemala is the country’s breathtaking beauty. Each day, as she walks to and from the hospital, she takes in the stunning scenery—the historic architecture, the towering mountains and volcanoes, and the vibrant flowers that line the streets. Though she has only seen a small part of the country, its beauty has left a lasting impression.
What Amanda cherishes most about Team Hope In Motion is the incredible sense of teamwork. Despite coming from different backgrounds and locations, the volunteers unite with a shared mission: to change lives through surgery. With a team of around 50 people, they work seamlessly together to provide life-changing procedures that restore mobility and independence to those in need.
To Amanda, being in Guatemala means giving patients the ability to function in their daily lives once again. She has witnessed firsthand the impact of the team’s work—patients who arrive unable to walk leave with the hope of regaining full mobility in the weeks to come. It’s a humbling experience that reminds her how often simple abilities like walking are taken for granted.
Amanda is grateful for the opportunity to serve, especially since Team Hope In Motion had been without a pharmacist for a few years. The team’s appreciation has made her experience even more meaningful, and she feels honored to contribute in any way she can. She also extends her gratitude to her family and friends for their support, as well as to her hospital, Mount Carmel, which generously sponsored her trip, allowing her to take time off work and be part of this incredible mission.
